In the rich tapestry of the Northern traditions, there is a role known as the Vitki, the “knowledgeable one.”
This is not a historical reenactor, but a contemporary inheritor of an ancient path, tasked with bridging the wisdom of the past with the pressing needs of the present.
My journey as a Vitki is one of service, study, and the sacred responsibility of being a spiritual guide in a complex world.
A Worldview Woven from Wyrd
At the heart of my practice is the Heathen understanding of the cosmos, centered on the great world tree, Yggdrasil, and the intricate web of fate known as Wyrd.
Wyrd is not a rigid, predetermined destiny. It is a dynamic tapestry of cause and effect, where our actions, intentions, and oaths add new threads to the great weaving.
As a Vitki, my role is not to break fate, but to help others understand its patterns and to skillfully weave their own threads with courage, honor, and conscious intent.

This work is grounded in core principles:
- The Gifting Cycle: Our relationship with the divine, the ancestors, and the spirits of the land is built on reciprocity. A gift demands a gift. Through offerings and ritual, we build and maintain bonds of mutual honor and kinship with the Holy Powers.
- A Complex Soul: We are more than just a body and a single soul. The Heathen soul is a multi-part complex of physical form (Lík), life-breath (Önd), conscious mind (Hugr), personal form (Hamr), guardian spirit (Fylgja), and spiritual luck (Hamingja). Understanding these parts provides a profound framework for healing, guidance, and self-awareness.
- The Power of the Word: In our tradition, the spoken word has immense power. Through sacred song (Galdr), prayer, and the formal oaths of a Sumbel (ritual toasting), we shape reality and weave our intentions into the fabric of Wyrd.
A Ministry of Service
The calling of a Vitki extends beyond personal practice into active ministry. It involves guiding others through the significant tides of their lives with rites for naming, weddings, and funerals—ceremonies that mark and sanctify life’s most important transitions.

Crucially, this is a path that meets people where they are. My background in psychology and law informs my approach, allowing me to translate ancient spiritual concepts into effective frameworks for healing and transformation in modern settings. For those in crisis or constraint—be it in a hospital, a correctional facility, or military service—the Heathen virtues of resilience, courage, and self-reliance become powerful tools. By understanding their place in the weave of Wyrd, individuals can find agency and meaning even in the most challenging circumstances.
To walk the path of the Vitki is to be a keeper of lore, an interpreter of runes, a facilitator of ritual, and a dedicated servant to the community. It is the work of keeping the ancient fires burning brightly to illuminate the path forward.
